The Dylan Hotel
Eastmoreland Place, Dublin
The Dylan, a 5 star boutique hotel approached us to redesign their ground floor. A previous Celtic Tiger upgrade was to be stripped back to provide an elegant series of spaces to arrive, lounge, eat, drink and party with some style.
Built in 1901 as a nurses’ home attached to the adjacent Baggot Street Hospital and extended in 2005, the scale of the rooms reflect a large domestic dwelling. Each of the spaces is individually considered as is its connection to adjoining spaces. Wall linings move from crisp white to burr walnut to textured wall paper and into deep red fabric, whilst floors are crisp marble to herringbone mahogony.
The lobby is green and grey: a stone floor of grey, green and white marbles is complimented with white panelling which contrasts with crisp dark joinery. Its adjoining rooms are lined with linen within the crisp white panels and the furniture is grey and green. The bar moves into tones of burnt orange and mustard; the restaurant by contrast has striking green furniture with white walls with glimpses of terraces to the east and west: the internal courtyard is an outdoor oasis of comfy seating and palm trees whilst the east facing terrace is a spot to capture the morning sun with a coffee. The final room to be discovered is the Ruby Room, dark and moody, walls lined in deep red patterned fabric, this is a room with its own bar, a place to hide a away late into the night. Executed on a phased basis within an operational hotel, the result is a transformation brought about by main contractors Structuretone and in particular with the skill and expertise of joiners Glenwood.
