The Clarion Hotel
Steamboat Quay, Limerick
Following on from the refurbishment of the 150 guest bedrooms over 11 floors we refurbished the ground floor of this city centre hotel on a very tight timescale with a tight budget. Clarion Limerick suffered the same fate as its sister hotel in Cork. Cold stone floors, lots of space and furniture not comfortable for dining or lounging! A single large space from the front door to the bar, it felt like the sort of lobby where you would check in but never sit around in. We made the reception softer with limed oak floors and couches placed on rugs beside the fire for the weary traveller; we introduced a dark blue panelled partial divide to allow privacy to the food and beverage spaces; a long character-filled old table to work at or eat, giant chesterfields with funky seats opposite, comfortable for drink and light food; an afternoon tea area in an unused meeting room with views up and down the Shannon River; mixtures of table sizes for large and small groups, all combined to keep hotel guests wining and dining in the hotel and encouraged others from outside.
