Montenotte Hotel + Bellevue Spa
Montenotte, Cork
Located on the south facing slopes of Cork city overlooking the River Lee from a height, The Montenotte Hotel’s previous incarnation was more concerned with shading than view. Our first move was to open the hotel to the view but to create zones within these opened up spaces. Reception was discretely located off the main thoroughfare: seating areas created within the lobby around grand sofas and a reinstatement of the library: the bar and restaurant were made as one but with zones for drinking and small bites, a lounge area for afternoon tea and large amounts of comfortable booth seating for all-day dining. Limed oak floors with a palette of greens and greys with pops of colour, the ground floor has its own distinct identity.
The 120 guest rooms were upgraded with statement headboards and bespoke flooring and furniture: along with the spa in dusty shades of green and pink, the leisure centre in vibrant blues and yellows all sitting within its own landscaped grounds, this all adds up to a terrific destination hotel.
